THY NAME IS WOMAN

She comes to the world just the way he does
Announcing her arrival with crying,
Then giggle and smile with nothing, as infant,
Learning slowly to crawl and to walk
Exploring and unveiling all her wonders.
At childhood, she enjoys being pampered
Hugged, kissed and cradled
Listen to stories of Granny
Wandering walking barefoot
Exactly the way he does.
But the world doesn’t look at her
The same way as to him
And the difference starts too soon
When father can’t afford sending both to school
The obvious choice is always him.
She may know the algebra better than him
But she is asked to look after her young sibling
And to learn the household nitty-gritty
While he is always set free
To roam around or study
Within the same household
He enjoys more freedom than her
Nobody question him where he is going
To come back with lithe timing,
Something she can never even imagine.
Then she goes to someone’s home for ever
From the day one, to be the perfect girl
Who makes everyone there, her own
With love, respect and care
The unknown world filled with unknown people.
Perhaps she has been to hostel too, just the way he has
Who knows to run the house, as little as he does
This life is as new to her as to him
And starting it is as thorny to her as to him
Something nobody seems to remember.
You never know the countless sacrifices she makes
In making this house a home
Leaving her everything to spend the life with you
Something you never bothered to think
As nothing more than a mere practice!
She has the strength just like a grass
Who shakes with a light breeze,
But stands unaffected by a big storm.
And her love is just like a stream,
Ever flowing and yet never ending.
Don’t take her for granted
Don’t judge her any more
Give her the love forgiving her mistakes
After all it’s the woman who brings a man to this world!
But the eternal most truth is
It’s the man, who makes a carefree girl the woman she is!

You are really right..........in lower strata of the society, girl child still needs to struggle at every stage of her life.

anneshwa,
A really realistic potray of women is encapsuled in these few lines. The poem attracts our attention by the simple and straight forward approach. No hyperbole.
Don't you think , with 33 % reservation for women, general acceptance of women working and the changing attitude towards women will go a long way in realising your dream of a carefree woman ?
But, in the lower strata of the society, a girl child is often treated as potrayed above ! Only a change in their attitude can bring betterment.
